This is Gotland Hiking Week

Hike on Gotland with our excellent guides!

The island has 800km of coastline and we Gotlanders love to hike along the sea coast with culture and nature close at hand. Small fishing hamlets, sea-stack fields, forests, beaches, high cliffs and windswept pines. We offer group hikes with knowledgeable nature guides in different parts of Gotland in both spring and autumn. The daily stretches vary between 10 and 20 km, sometimes with longer or shorter alternatives. We plan our tours according to the weather. We explore different types of nature, focusing mainly on Gotland’s fantastic coastline.

You can stay at the Hotel St. Clemens in the heart of Visby, a World Heritage town. The hotel is environmentally certified and consists of five buildings dating from the 17th century and later. If you prefer staying in a cottage, Visby Strandby is the right choice for you.

Accommodations in Visby, hiking along the coast and good food made from local produce lets you experience the best Gotland has to offer!

Hiking in spring

Magical light and budding greenery

Springtime on Gotland is truly unique. The limestone bed-rock along with the almost iridescent green of the newly-leafed vegetation creates a special light that attracts many artists to the island. The magical light and the great variety of flowers and insects emerging drowsily from their winter sleep make springtime on Gotland very special. The eagle population on the island has grown significantly since its decline in the sixties and seventies, so if we are lucky we will see one close-up! Not to mention all the returning migratory birds that find their way to this island in the middle of the Baltic Sea.

Autumn

Glorious autumn colours, clear air and truffles

The summer’s warmth in the Baltic Sea waters lingers on into autumn and makes for a special atmosphere in the countryside. Birds prepare to migrate, and nature offers up a full larder. Mushrooms and berries abound – the most famous is the Gotlandic bourgogne truffle. We take part in a truffle hunt – and then get to savour this delicacy! The sea offers salmon trout, cod and flounder. All the lunches and dinners on the autumn hikes are created using Gotlandic produce.
